EU‑backed investment accelerates Piako’s growth and internationalization
Pieksämäki‑based Piako is expanding rapidly yet steadily, supported by a new €2.7 million grant from the South Savo ELY Centre to advance its Productivity 2028 programme and international growth. The latest hall extension—which will bring total facilities to around 10,000 m² when completed next February—will add a new surface treatment line, additional assembly stations, and storage automation. A further approximately 3,300 m² of production space will be built to enable higher‑volume, series manufacturing, supported by investments in automated machinery.
Exports already account for about 30% of output, with the first deliveries to Australia scheduled for this autumn. Key export markets include Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, and Estonia, with Nordic sales targeted for further growth. A significant share of production covers military vehicle solutions, including deliveries to foreign armed forces (details not public). The company employs about 90 people and is recruiting on a rolling basis to support expansion.
