Viva Electric Jet Breaks Speed Record During Test Run

1.9.2025

Electric innovation pushes boundaries of water mobility

Mikkeli-based startup Viva Jets has developed a fully electric watercraft that combines the feel of a traditional jet ski with the stability of a small boat. The Viva Limited Edition model, an upgraded version of its 2024 prototype, recently achieved a speed record of 40.3 knots (75 km/h) during a test run in Helsinki—surpassing its official top speed of 35 knots.

Powered by a 65 kW electric motor with peak output exceeding 100 kW, the jet offers rapid acceleration and a quiet ride. It features a 28 kWh lithium battery, providing about two hours of cruising at 20 knots, with fast charging reducing downtime to 30 minutes. A larger 42 kWh battery option will also be available.

The craft measures 4 meters in length, seats up to three passengers, and is built from carbon fiber composite for strength and lightness. Its design draws inspiration from modern racing yachts and premium motorboats, aiming for a professional look rather than a toy-like appearance.

Viva plans to start serial production this winter, with a base price of €55,000 (excl. VAT). Over 40 pre-orders have already been signed, and the company targets markets where year-round use is possible. Beyond cost savings on fuel, customers are attracted by environmental benefits and reduced noise.
