Experienced trade expert takes the lead in expanding the network’s reach
Seppo Rantala has been selected to coordinate the Savo Defence Network. Rantala brings extensive experience in international trade promotion, including five years of export development work in North America. He previously served as a Commercial Counsellor for Team Finland at Finnish diplomatic missions in Ottawa and Los Angeles, helping Finnish companies enter Canadian and U.S. markets and attracting investments to Finland.
“The security market needs almost everything,” Rantala says, highlighting the growing global demand for comprehensive security solutions as defence budgets increase across NATO countries. “Finland and its expertise attract attention – we are like a large exhibition of preparedness.”
In his new role, Rantala will focus on opening doors for member companies, enabling joint offerings, and strengthening the network’s visibility both nationally and internationally. “Companies know how to sell on their own, but in a network the opportunities are broader. Networking creates shared visibility, new partnerships, and joint projects,” he explains. “Business growth will lead to investments in technology, capacity, and personnel.”
The Savo Defence Network, established in early 2024 and coordinated by the South Savo ELY Centre, now includes more than 50 member companies. Its mission is to help SMEs access large-scale defence procurement projects and expand internationally. The network operates with EU co-funding and company contributions, and its long-term goal is to boost member companies’ turnover and exports.
